Megan Lynne Young (born 27 February 1990) is a Filipino American beauty queen, actress and model. She won the Miss World Philippines title and was later crowned as Miss World 2013 in Bali, Indonesia. Miss World 2013’s 1st Runner Up – Marine Lorphelin (France), 2nd Runner Up – Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter (Ghana)

Miss World 2013 - Megan YoungMiss World 2013, the 63rd edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on September 28, 2013 at Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center in Bali, Indonesia. 127 contestants from all over the world competed. Yu Wenxia of China crowned Megan Young of the Philippines as her successor at the end of the event. This is the first time the Philippines won the title of Miss World since its creation in 1951.

India’s Navneet Kaur Dhillon (born September 23, 1992 Ambala, Haryana) won Multimedia Award at Miss World 2013. Pond’s Femina Miss India World 2013 Navneet Kaur Dhillon helped India bag the Multimedia Award at the Miss World 2013 pageant in Indonesia for the second time in a row. The award was first introduced by the Miss World Organization in 2012 when India’s Vanya Mishra clinched it.

The Multimedia Award is adjudged on how contestants presented their web section of the Miss World website and a Facebook page wherein they interact with fans through status updates, photos and videos. The maximum updates, interactions, likes and shares by fans earn fast track points on the Miss World scoreboard and ultimately help the contestant win the Multimedia Award.

Malala Yousafzai awarded 2013 International Children’s Peace Prize

Malala YousafzaiTeenage activist Malala Yousafzai (Pakistan), shot in the head by a Taliban militant last October after campaigning for girls right to education, has won the prestigious International Children’s Peace Prize, KidsRights announced on August 27, 2013.

The Pakistani 16-year-old will receive the award from 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winner and women’s rights campaigner Tawakkol Karman at a glittering ceremony in The Hague on September 6, 2013.

Last year’s (2012) International Children’s Peace Prize winner was 13-year-old Cris Kesz Valdez (Philippines) for his work with Filipino street children while he himself was destitute.

The International Children’s Peace Prize is awarded annually to a child who has made a significant contribution to advocating children’s rights and improving the situation of vulnerable children such as orphans, child labourers and children with HIV/AIDS. 

The prize is an initiative of the KidsRights Foundation, an international children’s aid and advocacy organisation based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands., was launched in 2005 by former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, when he chaired the Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in Rome.
