Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (Mussoorie), Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (Hyderabad), Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (Dehradun)

The Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA – Established: 1959) is located in the remote town of Mussoorie, Uttarakhand in the foothills of the Himalayas. The academy’s main purpose is to train civil service officers of the three All India Services namely Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service and the Indian Forest Service; and also for Group-A Central Services such as Indian Foreign Service among others.

In India, most officers of the premier civil services of the country are selected through competitive civil service exams administered by the Union Public Service Commission. Applicants who are accepted attend LBSNAA for a four-month Foundation Course. In this course the feeling of “equality” among all the trainees is introduced.

After this, officers of the Indian Administrative Service continue their professional training at the academy, while officers of other services proceed to respective staff colleges, such as the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA – Formation: September 15, 1948) in Hyderabad for Indian Police Service officers and the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA) in Dehradun for Indian Forest Service officers. Group-A Central Services officers proceed to their own staff colleges such as Foreign Service Institute, India for Indian Foreign Service officers. Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy was constituted in the year 1987 by renaming the erstwhile Indian Forest College, which was originally established in 1938 for training senior forest officers.

Grand Slam (Tennis)

TGrand slamhe Grand Slam tournaments, also called Majors, are the four most important annual tennis events. The Grand Slam itinerary consists of the Australian Open in mid January, the French Open in May / June, Wimbledon in June / July, and the US Open in August / September. Each tournament is played over a period of two weeks. The Australian and US tournaments are played on hard courts, the French on clay, and Wimbledon on grass. Wimbledon is the oldest, founded in 1877, followed by the US in 1881, the French in 1891, and the Australian in 1905. However, of these four, only Wimbledon was a major before 1924/25, the time when all four became designated Grand Slam tournaments.

The term Grand Slam also, and originally, refers to the achievement of winning all four major championships in a single calendar year within one of the five events: men’s and women’s singles; men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles. In doubles, one team may accomplish a Grand Slam playing together or one player may achieve it with different partners. The term “Grand Slam” without qualification refers to winning the four majors in a single calendar year.

The first definitive Grand Slam, of the current four majors, was accomplished when Don Budge won all four men’s singles Majors in 1938. To date, 17 players have completed a Grand Slam. Of these players, three have won multiple Grand Slams: Rod Laver accomplished the feat twice in men’s singles; Margaret Court accomplished the feat three times, in two different disciplines – once in women’s singles and twice in mixed doubles; and Esther Vergeer completed a grand slam twice in Women’s wheelchair doubles.

Kilometre Zero and Tiger Capital of India

In many countries, Kilometre Zero (also written km 0) is a particular location (often in the nation’s capital city), from which distances are traditionally measured. They were markers where drivers could set their odometers to follow directions in early guide books.

Zero Mile

INDIA: Zero Mile Stone is a monument locating the geographical center of India in the city of Nagpur, Maharashtra. The Zero Mile Stone was erected by the British who used this point to measure all the distances. The Zero Mile Stone consists of four horses and a pillar made up of sandstone.

Nagpur is also called the “Tiger Capital of India” as it connects many tiger reserves in India to the world.Nagpur lies at the dead centre of the country with the Zero Mile marker indicating the geographical centre of India.
