January 25, 2013 – 3rd National Voters Day
In order to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process, Government of India has decided to celebrate January 25 every year as ‘National Voters Day’. It is started from January 25th 2011.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) was established on 25 January 1950. The Election Commission has the power of superintendence, direction and control of all elections to parliament and the state legislatures and of elections to the office of the President and Vice-President. The Election Commission of India on 22 January 2013 announced Saina Nehwal and Mary Kom as the National Icons to help promote, voter participation in India.
