  • CHENNAI: Director K. Balachander, one of the influential filmmakers and trendsetters in Indian cinema, will receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2010, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry announced on Friday (29-04-2011).


  • The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India’s highest award in cinema given annually by the Government of India for lifetime contribution to Indian cinema. First Awarded in 1969 to Devika Rani Chaudhuri Roerich.


  • The award for a particular year is given during the end of the following year along with the National Film Awards. The award comprises a Swarna Kamal (golden lotus) medallion, a cash prize of Rs 1 million (10 lakhs) and a shawl.

    To day i am Going to Pen an another Interesting and Versatile Personality from the South Indian Films who won Many National awards for his work and the recent Dadasaheb Phalke award is none other then Veteran K.Balachander.Man known for his Powerful Scripts , Dialogs and his Directorial touch in Many films is worth to Mention here.Today’s top class actors studied in his Kavitalaya school was not a exaggerated one.he recent Prestigious DadaSaheb Phalke award Bestowed to this stalwart was the right one.Man who has contributed for more then Five decades to the South Indian cinema both in Small and Big screens are important.His subjects are Social oriented and revolutionary one.This Prestigious award was Honored to a Versatile Director from South India was a happy and Memorable one.Even at this age of 80 K.Balachander was active and Participating in Small screens,one has to appreciate.Today i am very happy to tribute this Stalwart for his out standing achivements and this award.
